The LIFE SUBSED project has been presented to the representatives of the Coldiretti association during a visit at Flora Toscana. Flora Toscana and CREA researchers and technicians illustrated the objectives, expected results and progress of the project. Particular attention has been paid to the issues of circularity and environmental sustainability.

On Monday 5 October 2020 the Caliplant team hosted Gala Garcia Imbernon, General Manager of Symborg, at the demonstration site where the cultivation trial of the LIFE SUBSED project are underway.
Symborg is a leading company in the production of biofertilizers and in the development of new biotechnologies for the agronomic sector.
During the meeting, Caliplant technicians illustrated the objectives and expected results of the LIFE SUBSED project and conducted a visit to the experimental sites where the small plants are growing.
The meeting allowed for an exchange of ideas and visions on the future and on the innovations that companies are called to introduce in their traditional production cycles, in order to make agriculture increasingly sustainable and to implement real models of circular economy.
The LIFE Subsed project was present (thanks to the participation of the beneficiary CNR of Pisa) at BRIGHT 2019 – The night of researchers in Tuscany (here is the detail for the city of Pisa), now a classic annual appointment to make citizens aware of the excellence of Italian research.
During the day, objectives and expected results of the LIFE Subsed project has been exposed to the crowd that took part in the event by going to the stand of the CNR of Pisa.
RemTech is the most specialized event on contaminated sites remediation and territory protection and requalification. The program focuses every year the most topical and interesting themes: regulatory evolution, characterization, risk analysis, remediation technologies, research, innovation, monitoring, environmental controls, industry, sustainability.
During the event, the general activities of the LIFE Subsed project has been described at the CNR stand, as well as its objectives, its main actions and the expected results. Particular attention has been paid to illustrating the problems inherent in the re-use of sediments, but relating them to their potential in different environmental sectors.
LIFE Subsed took part in the III national congress “Fruta de Hueso” (www.frutadehueso.com) thanks to the participation of the CaliPlant team. This event represented an important opportunity to meet stakeholders and operators of the sector. Below are some photos and information pages on the event and the article dedicated to CaliPlant and Subsed project.

Between 26 and 29 March 2019 the course “Water management across agro-ecosystems” has been held in Pisa at the CNR IRET headquarters (here the list of participants is available), as part of the “Springesemester in water and environmental management” organized by “UniLaSalle” of Beauvais in France. During the event, information material for the LIFE Subsed project has been distributed to the students.
The LIFE project was presented by the CNR-IRET team of Pisa during the Institute Conference (here the program) which took place in Rome on 9 and 10 April. During the event, in addition to an oral intervention, the poster that is shown below was exposed.
On Monday March 4th, the National Seminar “Fitotecnologie per la Gestione e la bonifica di siti contaminati: esempi di buone pratiche” (Phytotechnology for the Management and Reclamation of Contaminated Sites: Good Practice Examples) was held at the Pesaro Provincial Council Hall.
Dr. Grazia Masciandaro, first researcher at the CRN of Pisa, together with Prof. Giancarlo Renella of the University of Florence gave the speech entitled “Fitotecnologie per il reimpiego dei sedimenti fluviali contaminati” (Fitotechnology for the reuse of contaminated river sediments).
The event represented an important opportunity to illustrate objectives, actions and expected results of the LIFE Subsed project. The discussion then focused on the landfarming process to be used as the main technology in the remediation of sediments and other environmental matrices, or as a final refinement process (as proposed in the Subsed project).
The seminar also allowed for a strengthening of relations with important stakeholders in the sector:
- Andrea Sconocchia, REMTECH scientific committee and GdL Manager Fitoremedio RECONNET;
- Paolo De Angelis, DIBAF – University of Tuscia;
- Massimo Fagnano, Dia / CIRAM – University of Naples;
- Marco Falconi, CNR-ISPRA of Rome;
- Valeria Ancona, CNR-ISPRA of Taranto.
Thanks to the participation of Caliplant at the international Fruit Logistica fair, which was held in Berlin from 6 to 8 January, the objectives and results of the LIFE Subsed project continue to be disseminated. The delegates of Caliplant had the opportunity to meet different stakeholders and policy makers of great importance for the success of the project and the achievement of the objectives set.
Caliplant participated in the Agroexpo fair, which was held from January 23rd to 26th 2019. The event has been an important occasion for the dissemination of the aims and expected results of the LIFE Subsed project.
